Where are you losing shots?

After a round of golf, it is good to know where and why shots are being lost. Whether it’s a bad drive, misjudged approach or missed putt, there is always times in a round where shots get lost.

It is important to analyse whether there is a pattern which could link these shots together.

Are you missing fairways to the left when there is trouble right? Are you missing a lot of greens short? Is there a common side you might be missing putts?

There is usually a pattern where bad shots come from. It is important that you can identify this pattern and then make changes before the next round.

It can be quite difficult to spot a pattern. It’s not always a ‘common miss’. They can also be situational if there is more pressure, a crowd watching, a putt for par/birdie. It can depend on what stage of the round you are in, previous shots, the shape of the hole, slopes on the green and other factors which can cause mistakes.

By identifying at least one pattern per round you can develop a practice plan or a new strategy.

For example. If you have been blocking a lot of drives, try aiming down the left if you know there is trouble on the right of a hole.
