This game will need at least a basket of range balls and at least one partner, although more people can play.
Start with a lofted club like a wedge or 9 iron and choose a reasonable ‘gate’ as a target for the ball to go through. You must hit a ‘full shot’, like you would on the course, and the ball must LAND between the chosen targets.
If the ball goes through the gate then, move up 2 clubs in the bag (9-iron becomes 7-iron).
If you miss the target, go down by 2 (7-iron becomes 9-iron).
The person who hits their driver through the gate first is the winner.
If a person misses the gate with their driver, they must go backwards by 3 clubs and work their way back up. This increases the pressure to hit the ‘fairway’.
Playing this game with mates gets your competitive juices flowing. It puts any swing changes that you are working on in that session to the ultimate test! The pressure of not missing the target replicates the fear of hitting a bad shot when standing over a tight tee shot.
